Abstract

The electrical needs during critical times must be maintained continuously in good quality. However, no matter how good the quality of electricity from the service provider, in this case, PLN, disturbances or power outages can still occur. This can affect various industries including residential lighting. The survival of aquatic animals, specifically ornamental fish, is heavily dependent on devices like water pumps and/or aerators as suppliers of dissolved oxygen in water. To mitigate the negative effects of power outages from PLN, the author has designed a backup power system using an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) for ornamental fish aquariums with batteries/accumulators as backup power sources and using the MY4N relay as an automatic switch. Test results show that the voltage and current for components such as relays, 12V DC water pumps, and aerators remain stable when operating with PLN. Meanwhile, when using batteries, there is a significant decrease in power supply duration, although the system can maintain adequate performance for a sufficient time during emergencies. Battery charging durations are consistent, demonstrating the system's ability to efficiently restore power after use. PLN as a power source is preferable over batteries, as the average power output from PLN is closer to the operating power of a 22-watt water pump, averaging 21.768 watts, whereas the output power from the PLTPh inverter averages 18.98 watts. The backup power in this design is capable of supporting PLN power for an average of 1 hour and 49 minutes.
