Abstract

This research focuses on assessing the results of welding ASTM B280 copper pipe metal using gas welding. The aim is to reveal the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting connection which includes the tensile strength in the weld area. The research method is experimental, starting with preparing the workpiece, making welding procedures (Welding Procedure Standard), making specimens according to ASTM E-8 standards, welding processes, tensile testing and testing defects in welding. The material being joined is ASTM B260 copper metal. The welding method used uses gas welding. The additional materials used are three types of fillers with different compositions, namely fillers without silver elements (Cu 93.5%, P 6.5%), fillers with 5% silver elements (Ag 5%, Cu 88.8%, P 6.2%), and filler with silver elements (Ag 15%, Cu 80%, P 5%). The specimen size is based on the ASTM E-8 standard, namely 200 mm long, 20 mm wide and 0.61 mm thick. Tests carried out include: tensile testing to ASTM E-8 standards. Based on the research results, it was found that the tensile strength of the connection was between 9.26 – 18.96 kgf/mm2. 3. The higher the silver content in the filler, the higher the tensile test value produced on specimens with 15% silver filler which has an average tensile test value of 11.08 kgf/mm2. The testing process using NDT liquid penetrant is based on existing data, so for all of these specimens the existing indications are still within the limits of existing standards so they are declared Accepted.
