Abstract
Renewable energy is energy produced from natural processes in a sustainable manner. Indonesia itself is very rich in renewable energy sources, whether from geothermal heat, sunlight, water, wind and so on. Utilization of wind energy is one of the natural resources for generating electricity and can be renewed, therefore wind energy is an alternative energy that has good prospects for meeting the shortage of electrical energy apart from being always available. This research aims to create a turbine with maximum efficiency. The Savonius wind turbine is made from hollow square iron and zinc plate. The blades are made with variations in the number of blades, 2 blades, 3 blades and 4 blades. This research is usingexperimental method. Retrieval of data in the form of wind speed, air temperature, shaft rotation, torque and electrical voltage. This research data analysis uses quantitative descriptive analysis. The research results stated that the highest efficiency was 16.20% from variations in the number of 4 blades at a wind speed of 5.3 m/s. and the lowest efficiency was 12.25% from a variation in the number of 3 blades of 10.11% at a wind speed of 3.8 m/s. The area of the wind catchment affects the efficiency value obtained.
