Abstract
ST 37 steel is steel that is classified as having good tensile strength , which ranges from 37 - 45 kg/mm². ST 37 steel is classified as low carbon content because it has a carbon value of 0,468 - 574 %. Optimization of papaya leaf extract organic inhibitor used as a coating within 168, 336, 504 hours. Corrosion rate testing was carried out using the weight loss method. The results of the research at each immersion time showed that ST 37 steel whitout papaya leaf extract inhibitor in tap watter media was 6.874 mpy , 4.419 mpy, 3.273 mpy. And for sea watter media without inhibitor of 8.455 mpy, 7.365 mpy and 5.237 mpy. Layer 1 media tap watter 6.186 mpy, 3.928 mpy and 2.618 mpy, in sea watter media 7.463 mpy, 6.383 mpy and 4.582. Layer 2 on tap watter media 5.892 mpy, 3.731 mpy and 2.618 mpy, on sea watter media 6.874 mpy 5.401 mpy and 3.273 mpy. Layer 3 is 5.499 mpy, 3.584 mpy and 2.618 mpy for tap watter, then on sea watter media 6.186 mpy, 4.910 mpy, and 3.600 mpy. The longer the immersion time resulted in a decease in corrosion rate of ST 37 carbon steel.
