Abstract

This research examines monstrous feminine and monster culture presented in the film The Gorgon (1964). Audio-visual media can bring back monsters from mythological or folk stories even though they have different forms, but not only visuals and narration, even the fear that forms these ancient monsters is also can be felt. The analysis that will be carried out aims to see woman constructed as monster and research the culture embedded to the body of the monster in order to trace the birth of Megaera as a cultural monster. The observation method is used to collect scenes to be analysed related to monstrous feminine and monster culture. The results of the research show that the depiction of Megaera as a monstrous feminine who poses a threat to the Vandorf patriarchal society and the fear of women who become castration agent and the cultural differences on her body show Megaera as a monster.
