Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability to understand grade III mathematics concepts of SDI Al-Hamidiyah Bekasi. This can be seen from: Students only express with numbers without units when measuring something; students have difficulty in converting one unit to another; students cannot understand and answer questions from the teacher; students do not understand mathematical concepts so that students' abilities do not reach the minimum completeness criteria; Teachers still use conventional learning and emphasize more on the completion of the subject matter compared to the level of students' ability to understand the subject matter they have delivered; Students' concept understanding of the relationship between standard units for length, weight, and time is also still very low. This research model uses Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of 2 meetings that go through 4 stages, namely planning, implementing actions, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study amounted to 11 learners. The data in this collection was obtained using data collection techniques in the form of written tests and observations. The success criterion in this study is if 80% of the number of students achieve a score of 80. Based on the results of the study, the first cycle obtained the ability to understand mathematical concepts, students obtained a percentage of learning completeness of 36.3% with an average score of 71.5. In cycle II, students' ability to understand mathematical concepts obtained a percentage of learning completeness of 81.8% with an average score of 80.6, and the percentage increase in understanding of mathematical concepts, which is 9%. The conclusion of this study is that the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model can improve the ability to understand Mathematics concepts in grade III students of SDI Al-Hamidiyah Bekasi.
