Abstract
Factors that affect the surface quality of a workpiece in the machining process include the angle and sharpness of the cutting knife in the turning process, variations in cutting speed, flashlight position, engine vibration, poor heat treatment and so on. The method used in this study is an experimental method, which is a method used to test by adding several variations, so that later the value of the surface roughness of the workpiece and tool vibration will be obtained every addition of variables tested. tool vibration measurement results during the ST41 steel turning process with a spindle rotation speed of 485 Rpm using a variety of SAE 40, Collant Bromus and uncooled oil cooling media with cutting depths of 0.5 mm and 1 mm. The results of roughness measurements on 6 specimens resulting from the turning process using 3 types of coolants. The type of cooling medium and cutting depth affect tool vibration and surface roughness in ST41 steel. SAE 40 oil cooling media type with a cutting depth of 0.5 mm is ideal in conventional turning processes on ST41 steel to produce tool vibration values of 0.6 mm/s and surface roughness with values of 4.537 μm.
