Abstract

Welding is one of the ways or methods of joining materials used in steel construction and machine construction where in this process there is a connection between two metal materials by melting certain iron and attaching it to both materials. Welding has several different methods, namely SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and many more. One of the welding methods used in the industrial world is SMAW (Sheilded Metal Arc Welding). In the SMAW welding technique process, variations of straight, zig-zag and spiral electrode movements are used. In the industrial world, there are many types and kinds of low carbon steel that can be used as the basic material for a product or component and one of them is SPCC Steel (Steel Plate Carbon Steel). The purpose of this study was to determine the Effect of SMAW Welding Technique Variations on Tensile Test Values on SPCC Steel Materials. The results of the study indicate that variations in SMAW welding techniques on SPCC steel affect the hardness and microstructure values. The highest hardness values are found in the weld metal and HAZ regions compared to the parent metal. The microstructure changes from ferrite-pearlite in the parent metal to finer grains in the HAZ and weld metal regions due to the influence of welding heat. Keywords: SMAW, Tensile Test, SPCC
