Abstract

This study aims to investigate the history and development of the At-Taqwa Islamic Boarding School in Bekasi Regency. KH. Noer Ali initiated the establishment of the educational institution that served as the precursor to the At-Taqwa Islamic Boarding School. Throughout its journey, the pesantren has experienced various dynamics, adapting to the changes of the times without losing its original identity. The Kyai, mosque, santri, dormitory buildings, kitab kuning, and teaching methods-including the halaqah, sorogan, and bandongan systems-remain its fundamental elements. Overall, there are 327 pesantren in the Bekasi Regency area according to the PDPP (Pesantren Database) that have long existed and continue to grow to this day. This research uses qualitative methods that produce desciptive data. The research method used is fieldwork. Data collection techniques used in this study include observation, interviews, recordings, and documentation. In analyzing data sources, this study uses content analysis, source criticism, and historiography to describe the contents of sources or works related to the At-Taqwa Islamic Boarding School in Bekasi Regency. The results of this study indicate that this Islamic boarding school uses a traditional system with simple facilities integrated with the mosque. Then in 1950 with the establishment of the Islamic Development, Maintenance, and Assistance Foundation. Significant developments occurred with the establishment of the Bahagia Islamic Boarding School in 1954 and the legalization of the P.3 Foundation in 1956. In 1980, the Islamic P3 Foundation changed its name to the At-Taqwa Islamic Boarding School Foundation to combine informal and formal educational institutions. The current At-Taqwa Islamic Boarding School curriculum has integrated the goverment curriculum (Ministry of Religious Affairs) with the typical Islamic boarding school curriculum (Kitab Kuning). In addition, the learning method has evolved from simply sorogan to active learning. The use of digital facilities such as laboratories (Language, computer, Mathematics and Natural Sciences), online learning (Zoom/Streaming), and the use of social media for academic transparency have been implemented massively.
