Abstract
Athletes' mental readiness is essential to maintain focus, emotion, and self confidence when facing competitive pressure. Self talk acts as a psychological strategy that helps build confidence, control negative thoughts, and maintain motivation and concentration to maintain optimal performance in every match. The research uses a quantitative method with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 25 athletes selected by total sampling technique. Data were obtained through self talk and self-confidence questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using the Pearson correlation test through SPSS. The results showed a correlation value of 0.749 with a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means that there is a positive and significant relationship between self talk and athlete confidence. The higher the positive self talk, the higher the athlete's confidence in facing the competition. Keywords: self talk, self-confidence, pencak silat athletes, sports psychology.
