Abstract

ABSTRACT The Implementation of the Dhuha Prayer Habituation Method in Shaping Students’ Religious Character in the Islamic Education Subject at SMP Negeri 5 Cikarang Barat Name: Maryani Position: Graduate Student of Islamic Education (MPAI) Email: mmaryani573@gmail.com This study aims to examine the implementation of the habit-forming method of Dhuha prayer and the role of teacher exemplification in shaping students' religious character in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subject at SMP Negeri 5 Cikarang Barat. Religious character is a crucial aspect of education, especially in the era of globalization, which presents numerous moral and spiritual challenges. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included Islamic education teachers, general subject teachers, school principals, and students at SMP Negeri 5 Cikarang Barat. The findings revealed that the Dhuha prayer habituation is conducted routinely every morning before the start of academic activities. Both Islamic education teachers and other teachers set examples through direct participation, discipline, and religious conduct in their daily lives. Despite obstacles such as students' lack of awareness and limited worship facilities, support from the school and consistent teacher role models effectively motivated students to maintain the practice. The implementation of Dhuha prayer habituation accompanied by teacher role modeling positively influenced students' attitudes and behavior. There was a notable improvement in religious aspects such as honesty, responsibility, social awareness, and devotion in worship. These findings suggest that worship habituation and exemplary teacher conduct are effective strategies in fostering students' religious character.
