Abstract

This study aims to examine how the Snowball Throwing learning model is implemented to enhance engagement in the Islamic Cultural History (SKI) subject for grade X at MA Al-Wathoniyah 14 Jakarta. The background of this research stems from the low level of student participation in SKI learning, which has traditionally relied on lecture-based methods. This approach tends to make students passive, less involved in discussion, and disengaged from the learning process. This study employs a descruptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of SKI teachers and grade X students who were directly involved in the application of the Snowball Throwing model. The data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the implementation of the Snowball Throwing model has been effective in increasing student participation and engagement. The classroom atmosphere became more active and enjoyable. Students appeared more enthusiastic, actively participated in discussion, confidentky expressed their opinions, and were more involved in learning activities. Futhermore, the classroom environment learning more dynamic and supportive. These findings align with cooperative learning theories that emphasize the importance of social interaction in enhacing understanding and student involvement. Therefore, the Snowball Throwing learning model can be considered an effective instructional strategy to increase sudent engagement in history learning, particularly in the SKI subject. Its implementation not only encourages students to be more active in the learning process but also helps develops critical thinking, communication skills, and teamwork.
