Abstract
This research is motivated by the problem of low arithmetic ability of students in Mathematics subjects in grade III of SDN Pulogebang 07. The problems that can be seen are: 1. students do not understand how to calculate multiplication, 2. students are less able to determine place value and number value so that in carrying out multiplication operations, 3. students are less able to calculate due to lack of understanding. The purpose of this study was to determine efforts to improve arithmetic ability through the problem based learning (PBL) model in grade III students of SDN Pulogebang 07. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of 2 cycles in each cycle consisting of 2 meetings with research subjects totaling 32 students. Data collection in this study was carried out using written tests. The success criteria in this study are 80%. The results of this study indicate that the increase in numeracy skills is in cycle I classical completeness of 53% with an average value of 63 and in cycle II classical completeness increased to 82% with an average value of 86. This shows that there is an increase in Numeracy Skills using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model of 29%. Thus it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model can improve the mathematical numeracy skills of class III SDN Pulogebang 07.
