Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability to solve mathematical story problems, especially in the material of multiplication and division story problems. This can be seen from students who have difficulty in identifying known elements, asked and the adequacy of the required data, difficulty in formulating strategies or compiling mathematical models, have not been able to apply strategies to solve various mathematical problems, and have not been able to explain the results according to the original problem. This study aims to determine the increase in mathematical problem solving abilities using the Problem Solving learning model in grade IV students at SDN Duren Jaya 2 Bekasi. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle is carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects in the study were 20 students, consisting of 11 males and 9 females. The data collection technique in this study used written tests and observations. The criteria for success in this study are 100% with a predetermined KKM value of 75. The results of the study showed that the classical completeness of grade IV students increased from cycle I to cycle II. The classical percentage in cycle I was 45% with an average value of 76. In cycle II it increased to 100% with an average value of 94. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the problem solving learning model resulted in a significant increase in the problem solving ability of mathematical story problems in grade IV students at SDN Duren Jaya 2 Bekasi.
