Abstract

Water is a very important need for humans and very abundant resource. Most of the water on earth is sea water. As time goes by, increasing population growth causes a reduction in the supply of clean water sources. For this reason, proper handling is needed to process sea water into clean water. One of them is distillation. Distillation is a process of heating materials at various temperatures without contact with outside air, where condensation and evaporation processes occur to obtain clean air. The tool used is solar powered distillation with an absorber to speed up the evaporation process. One of the absorbents used is temple stone which has the characteristic of being able to absorb heat well as an absorbent. The methodology used in this research uses flat plate collector type solar powered distillation. There were three variations of the absorber tested, including full absorber, ½ absorber and no absorber. The results of the tests carried out showed that at a solar radiation intensity of 414,38 W/m2 for 4 hours of testing, the efficiency obtained from the 1/2 absorber variation was around 43,1% with the resulting fresh water being 583 ml while the highest efficiency was owned by the full absorber with a value of 66,9% with fresh water produced 598 ml, then the lowest without absorber is around 15,56% with fresh water produced 369 ml. From these data it can be concluded that this asphalt has the potential to be used as an absorber in solar power distillation because it can increase the efficiency of the tool.
