Abstract

The prevalence of depression among young Indonesians is high. The high rate of mental health problems should also be balanced with psychological help seeking. Important factors in attitudes towards seeking psychological help are influenced by self-stigma and independence. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-stigma and independence with attitudes towards seeking psychological help among UNISMA Bekasi students. This research design is quantitative correlation. The research subjects totaled 97 UNISMA Bekasi students in the 2019-2021 batch using simple random sampling technique. The correlation test results show a negative relationship between the self-stigma variable and attitudes towards seeking psychological help (r = -0.425, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05)) and a positive relationship between the independence variable and attitudes towards seeking psychological help (r = 0.230, p = 0.024 (p < 0.05)). Furthermore, there is an influence of self-stigma and independence variables on attitudes towards seeking psychological help F = 15.083 (0.000 (α <0.05)) with an influence contribution of 24.2% (R2 = 0.242).
