Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of temperature variations in the bending process using brass pipe material on the quality of the bending results. The material used in this research is brass pipe material with a size of 25.40 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. As a result, brass metal has antiseptic properties that can overcome oligodynamic effects. Based on its composition, brass alloys are divided into several types, such as Muntz brass which contains 35-45% zinc (Zn) which is able to work well at hot temperatures, high brass containing 65% copper and 35% zinc which is widely used for screws and rivets. Naval brass is brass with a tin (Sn) content of 1.0-1.5% which has high resistance to salt water corrosion). Leaded yellow brass has a composition of 67% copper (Cu), 29% zinc (Zn), 1% tin (Sn) and 3% lead (Pb) which has special applications for battery clamps and fittings. Brass cartridges with an alloy composition of 70% copper (Cu) and 30% zinc (Zn) have typical applications for ammunition components. The variations in this research use temperature variations of 500℃, 600℃, and 700℃. This research uses a bending process with pipes that have gone through a heat treatment process with temperature variations and then bent 90°. For results, the pipe with a temperature of 500℃ experienced a taper of 3.6 mm. In the results, the pipe with a temperature of 600℃ experienced a taper of 0.65 mm. The results of the pipe with a temperature of 700℃ experienced a taper of 2.25 mm. The pipe without heat treatment experiences a taper of 0.8 mm. The results from a temperature of 600℃ are superior to a temperature of 500℃ and a temperature of 700℃. Keywords: Temperature variations, Brass Pipe, Bending Process, Bending Results
