Abstract

Tourism is a sector that has an important role in the economic development of a country. In Indonesia, tourism has become one of the leading sectors that makes a significant contribution to the national economy. An interesting trend in the tourism industry is the growth of tourist villages. Tourist villages utilize uniqueness, local wisdom and local natural potential to attract tourists, and focus on social, cultural and environmental sustainability. The development of tourist villages in Indonesia has experienced significant progress with the support of the government and various related parties. Tourist villages have succeeded in attracting tourists by offering authentic experiences and unique local culture. This phenomenon is not only limited to Java and Bali, but also extends to other areas such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua. One successful example is Umbul Ponggok Village in Klaten, Central Java, which has transformed its local potential into an attractive tourist destination with the support of the government and local community. Mekarwangi Village in Sindangkerta District, West Bandung Regency, has extraordinary potential to be developed as a tourist village with natural beauty, plantations and traditional culture that are still maintained. Achievements in cultivating Arabica coffee which are internationally recognized add to the attractiveness of this village as a promising tourist destination. Efforts to develop the Mekarwangi Tourism Village have been carried out since early 2020 with the support of various parties including the Mekarwangi Village Government, West Bandung Regency Regional Government, West Java Provincial Government, and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). However, the progress obtained has not been optimal due to the existence of inhibiting factors that influence efforts to develop tourist villages.
