Abstract

Slang is language that is more often used by teenagers and is usually used to convey specific things that are only known by a certain group. Slang can vary between individuals and groups. This research focuses on examining the process of forming slang language that is often used by teenagers and interpreting it. This research uses TikTok as a data source because this platform allows access to a variety of creative content that reflects current trends in the use of slang. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with listening techniques. There are 22 data analyzed based on the 3 accounts that have been selected, there are @fakta_012, @roseparkeuu, and @bct_english which contain a collection of slang usage on TikTok. The results of this research show that there are 22 slang words that fall into six word formation processes, there are derivation, abbreviation, compounding, borrowing, clipping, and conversion. These 22 data show that slang has varying meanings depending on the context and how the words or phrases are used. In TikTok social media, some people use slang to create humor, express emotions, strengthen identity, expand social connections and also to keep up with the latest developments.
