Abstract

Steel is one of the main materials in making building construction materials, especially focusing on applications. ST 37 Steel is a low carbon steel which has a carbon content of less than 0.3%. This steel is often used for machine constructions that rub against each other, screws, etc. because it is very ductile. However, the surface hardness of this steel is relatively low. In this research, a milling machine is used as the main tool for processing steel. The process of machining steel using milling machines has experienced significant development by sharing innovations to produce quality workpieces. Surface roughness is the main parameter in assessing the quality of machining results, and this research aims to determine the effect of Coolant Oil Base and Coolant Water Base coolant variations on the surface roughness of ST 37 Steel. The results of this research show that coolant variations have a significant effect on the surface roughness value of ST Steel specimens. 37. By using Coolant Oil Base and Coolant Water Base you can reduce the level of surface roughness to a lower level (smoother). This research took a variety of coolants as samples, namely Coolant Oil Base and Coolant Water Base to measure the average value of surface roughness on ST 37 Steel.
