Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of gratitude on body image and the effect of social comparison on body image in late adolescents who use Instagram in Bekasi City. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a correlational approach. The sample in this study amounted to 265 people selected using purposive sampling technique. This study uses a Likert scale with 7 answer choices for the gratitude scale and 5 answer choices for the social comparison and body image scales. The data analysis test uses simple linear regression test. The result of this study is gratitude has a significant positive influence on body image by obtaining a significance value of ρ = 0.000 (ρ <0.05) and R square of 0.284. This means that the gratitude variable provides an effective contribution of 28.4%, while 71.6% is influenced by other variables. In addition, the results also show that social comparison has a significant negative effect on body image by obtaining a significant value of ρ = 0.000 (ρ <0.05) and R square of 0.250. This means that the social comparison variable provides an effective contribution of 25%, while 75% is influenced by other variables. Keywords: body image, gratitude, social comparison
