Abstract

This research was carried out with the aim of finding out the role of school principals in improving the competency of educators based on the national education system at MTs As-subkiyah Bekasi. This research is motivated by many opinions stating that teacher competence in Indonesia is very low or inadequate, this is a direct result of teacher welfare, where the high and low quality of education in Indonesia is influenced by various factors, one of which is the quality of the learning process carried out by teachers and it is the responsibility of the school principal in increasing their competence in accordance with the National Education System. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with field research. How to find data using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The object of this research was carried out at MTs As-subkiyah Bekasi. The findings of this research indicate that the role of the principal in improving teacher competency at MTs As-subkiyah Bekasi refers to the provisions of the Ministry of National Education (Depdiknas), namely "educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, work climate creator/motivator and entrepreneur" which are summarized in His leadership style is task-oriented and people-oriented. Apart from that, there are supporting factors for school principals, namely support from the school, access to learning resources, collaboration between teachers, and training programs. There are also inhibiting factors, namely limited time, lack of resources, and lack of teacher awareness. Keywords: Role of School Principals, Educator Competence, National Education System
