Abstract

The strength of the welded connection is very influential on the quality of the welded joint and the requirements of a standard construction, especially the construction in the oil and gas industry such as piping. This study aims to determine the tensile strength (tensile strength) and the value of Vickers hardness (Vickers hardness) of BRASCO copper pipe welding joints 3/4 inch x 1.07mm ASTM B819 Type-L Medical by using the oxy-acetylene welding process and using a neutral flame. The borax used is silver brazing flux and the filler used is Harris 0 Silver Brazing and the welding position used is 1G. The cooling used uses ambient air. From the results of testing the macro structure on OAW welding without using borax, it indicates clear welding limits, because fusion and dilution between Base Metal and Weld Metal are not maximal, so that it will result in a lack of side wall. Lack of side wall fusion is an imperfection found on the side wall. welding connection. The most important step is to ensure good weld preparation, including proper cleaning and surface preparation. From the results of testing the macro structure on welding using borax and not using borax, it can be seen that there are still quite a lot of pores between the parent metal and filler metal.
