Abstract

This study discusses globalization and modernization, especially in the modification of traditional food in South Tambun. The development of the population of Bekasi City, especially the South Tambun sub-district, has caused Bekasi City, which functions as a buffer for the City of Jakarta, to receive an abundance of activities in the form of industry, trade and services as well as a residential area. In my research this time I will discuss the modification of traditional food due to the impact of globalization and modernization that has occurred in South Tambun sub-district. What is the influence of globalization and modernization on traditional food and how the form of food modification is due to the impact of globalization and modernization. There are various data that I have collected from 02 January 2022- 10 October 2022 in Tambun Selatan District. I got the data from several food vendors and took pictures of the food. The data collected is about 15 traditional foods which are assessed from various aspects. This research uses theory as a reference, belonging to Giddens and Dicken who discusses globalization and Martinelli who discusses modernization. The results of my research show that several traditional foods have been modified from various aspects, such as their name, packaging, and ingredients. The research method that I use is a qualitative method, namely research that intends to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the research subject. The data I take are in the form of pictures and interviews with food vendors to get relevant results.
