Abstract

This research aims to examine the types of meaning and make comparisons of the first and newest soft drink advertisements from the five most popular brands in 2022 such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Red Bull, Nescafe, and Monster Energy. The limitations of this study focus on semantic related to Leech's theory seven types of meaning (1981). A qualitative descriptive research approach with another combination are used in analyzing data to find out the types of meaning as well as similarities and differences in advertisements. The results of the analysis show that 18 types of meaning are found in ten of the first and newest soft drink advertisements. The meanings and the consistency of advertising slogan are also the similarities that found in the first and newest advertisements. Long and detailed descriptions or short sentences, the form of visualization and the types of meaning are the differences found in advertisements.
