Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of the students of SDN 05 Bahagia. It can be seen that students have difficulty in re-explaining the results of the stories they read, in working on the questions the average student only reads the questions asked by the teacher then students look for answers in the story repeatedly, students still have difficulty in giving an assessment of the story. The purpose of the study was to improve reading comprehension skills by using the KWL (Know-Want-Learned) method for students at SDN 05 Bahagia. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 3 (three) cycles. Each cycle carried out four stages, namely the stages of planning, implementation, action and reflection. The number of students in the research class is 31 students. The number of female students is 18 and the number of male students is 13. Data collection techniques in this study used performance tests and observations. The results showed that the classical mastery of class III increased from cycle I to cycle III. The percentage of classical completeness in the first cycle is 61% with an average value of 70. In the second cycle classical completeness increases to 71% with an average value of 75. In the third cycle classical completeness increases to 87% with an average value of 84. Thus it can be concluded that the KWL (Know-Want-Learned) method can improve reading comprehension skills in grade III SDN 05 Bahagia. With the use of the KWL (Know-Want-Learned) method, the teacher becomes more creative in using the method in learning and students become more interested in reading so that learning can be achieved well.
