Abstract
The phenomenon of insecure attachment in elementary school-aged children often hinders the development of their emotional intelligence and social interaction. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of empathy training as an intervention to improve emotional intelligence and empathy in children aged 10–13 years identified as having insecure attachment. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects consisted of 40 elementary school students at an educational foundation in Bekasi City, who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test to measure internal group effectiveness and an independent sample t-test to compare the results between the experimental and control groups. The results show that empathy training had a significant effect on the improvement of empathy (t = -4.077; p < 0.05) and emotional intelligence (t = -9.772; p < 0.05) in the experimental group. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in post-test results between the experimental group, which achieved a mean emotional intelligence score of 72.75, and the control group, which scored only 63.60. Empathy training proved to be an effective intervention strategy for strengthening the foundation of emotional intelligence and social skills in children with insecure attachment. This training model is recommended as an applicable support program in both educational settings and child psychology institutions to mitigate the negative impacts of insecure attachment patterns on children's future psychosocial development. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan empati berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan empati (t = -4,077; p < 0,05) dan kecerdasan emosional (t = -9,772; p < 0,05) pada kelompok eksperimen. Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada hasil post-test antara kelompok eksperimen yang memiliki skor rata-rata kecerdasan emosional 72,75, dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol yang hanya mencapai skor 63,60.
