Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of the Qur’an memorization program in improving the religious literacy of students at MA Islam As-Syafi’iyah 02 in Bekasi City. In this study, religious literacy is defined as students’ ability to understand religious teachings in the cognitive domain, to internalize and appreciate religious values in the affective domain, and to implement them in daily life in the psychomotor domain. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation of the research subjects, which included tahfidz program teachers, students, and parents of students participating in the tahfidz program. The research findings indicate that the implementation of the Qur’an memorization program at MA As-Syafi’iyah 02 in Bekasi City is carried out in a structured manner through local curriculum activities, memorization skills, and review sessions. This program contributes to improving students’ religious literacy, particularly in terms of their ability to read the Qur’an with optimal accuracy and fluency, fostering a disciplined attitude and a love for the Qur’an, and bringing about a transformation in religious behavior in daily life, as reflected in increased religious practice and the cultivation of noble character. The findings of the study indicate that the implementation of the Al-Qur'an Tahfidz Program at MA As-Syafi'iyah 02 Bekasi City is carried out in a structured manner through local content activities and tahfidz skills, as well as muroja'ah. This program contributes to improving students' religious literacy, especially in their ability to read the Qur'an properly and correctly, the development of discipline and love for the Qur'an, and changes in religious behavior in daily life, such as an increase in worship habits and the formation of better morals. However, the researchers also identified a number of challenges, including a limited depth of understanding of the verses’ meanings, the influence of gadget use, and students’ lack of consistency in maintaining their memorization. Thus, the Qur’an memorization program, which has proven to be effective, plays a positive role in enhancing students’ religious literacy; however, further emphasis is needed on understanding and applying the values of the Qur’an so that the goals of religious literacy can be achieved more effectively.
