Abstract

ABSTRACT “Strategies of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Enhancing Students’ Independent Learning Character through Parental Involvement at SDN Margahayu 1 Kota Bekasi.” Nama : Sabeni Jabatan : Mahasiswa MPAI UNISMA Email : sabeni.ahyadfaqih@gmail.com This research aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers to enhance students’ independent learning character through parental involvement at SDN Margahayu 1, Bekasi City. The study is grounded in the ongoing challenges related to students’ varying levels of learning independence and the suboptimal engagement of parents in supporting learning activities at home. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied, using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Participants included the school principal, the PAI teacher, parents, and students. The findings indicate that students’ independent learning character is categorized as moderately strong, demonstrated through responsibility, initiative, discipline, and task-management skills. The PAI teacher implemented several key strategies, including religious habituation, active learning approaches, structured independent assignments, and the use of daily journals titled “7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children.” Intensive communication with parents—via personal messages, communication books, and informal meetings—also played an essential role in reinforcing students’ independence. Parental involvement was found to significantly influence students’ independent learning, particularly in providing supervision, motivation, and consistent reinforcement of habits. Nevertheless, several challenges emerged, such as parents’ limited time availability, insufficient awareness of the importance of involvement, and uneven two-way communication. The study concludes that strengthening students’ learning independence requires continuous synergy between the PAI teacher and parents through effective communication, emotional support, and reinforcement of structured learning habits at both school and home.
