Abstract
Slums are uninhabitable settlements characterized by building irregularities, high building density levels, and substandard building quality and facilities and infrastructure. Poor and unhealthy environmental conditions, shelters for marginal activities, and sources of epidemic diseases that will eventually spread to urban areas. Bekasi City is one of the cities in West Java Province that has slums. This study aims to determine the strategy of the Department of Housing, Residential Areas, and Land in Sumurbatu Village, Bantar Gebang District, Bekasi City. This study uses strategic management theory from J. David Hunger and Thomas L. Wheelen. This study uses a qualitative method using a descriptive analytical approach. The results of this study can be concluded that the strategy of the Department of Housing, Residential Areas, and Land in Sumurbatu Village, Bantar Gebang District, Bekasi City, in general, the strategy implemented is good, but not yet fully effective in reducing the number of slums in Sumurbatu Village, Bantar Gebang District, Bekasi City.
