Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of students’ self-confidence in the learning process. Self-confidence is an essential factor that encourages students to be active, express their opinions, and develop their potential. However, in reality, many students still display feelings of inferiority, shyness, and reluctance to perform in front of the class, which negatively affects their learning outcomes. SMP Islam Bina Taqwa Jonggol, as an educational institution, is not only responsible for transferring knowledge but also for fostering attitudes, character, and students’ self-confidence through Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The role of PAI teachers becomes crucial, as they are not only instructors but also educators who are able to cultivate students’ self-confidence through spiritual guidance, motivation, and positive habituation. This study aims to describe the efforts of PAI teachers in enhancing students’ self-confidence at SMP Islam Bina Taqwa Jonggol. The type of research used is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the efforts of PAI teachers in enhancing students’ self-confidence at SMP Islam Bina Taqwa Jonggol have been carried out effectively using strategies suited to students’ needs. The stages of the activities include: 1) conducting muhadharah or public speaking practice in class, 2) encouraging students to ask questions and express opinions during lessons, 3) providing motivation and spiritual guidance, 4) preparing supportive learning facilities, and 5) giving appreciation for students’ courage to participate. These findings demonstrate that the role of PAI teachers significantly contributes to fostering students’ self-confidence through structured and continuous learning strategies.
