ABSTRACT Yusuf Indra Cahya. 41182911190139. THE MORAL VALUES OF CHILDREN TOWARD THEIR PARENTS IN TAFSIR AL-AZHAR. Islamic Education Study Program. Faculty of Islamic Studies. Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi. (1447 H/2025 M). This study aims to analyze the concept of children’s moral conduct toward parents as interpreted by Buya Hamka in Tafsir Al-Azhar. The research is motivated by the weakening practice of birrul walidain in contemporary Muslim society, particularly in terms of respect and responsibility toward parents. The research problems addressed are: (1) Buya Hamka’s view on the position of children’s morality toward parents in Islam, and (2) the moral values that children are required to uphold toward their parents according to Tafsir Al-Azhar. This study is expected to provide a clearer understanding of filial morality from a Qur’anic interpretation perspective. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a library research method. The primary data source is Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka, while secondary data are obtained from books, scholarly journals, and other relevant literature. Data analysis is conducted through content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that Buya Hamka places children’s moral conduct toward parents in a highly significant position immediately after the obligation of monotheism (tauhid). The emphasized moral values include practicing kindness (ihsan), showing respect and affection, speaking gently, serving parents sincerely, and praying for them both during their lifetime and after their death. However, obedience to parents is considered conditional and is not permitted when it contradicts the teachings of monotheism and the commands of Allah SWT.
