Abstract

Communication plays an important role in sports. Through good communication, coaches can convey effective information to their athletes to achieve targeted achievements. Although communication is very important to achieve common goals, it is not uncommon for communication to also cause the destruction of an achievement due to the coach's communication style that is not right for the athlete. This study aims to analyze the influence of coach communication style on the attitudes of roller skate athletes in Bekasi City. The communication styles studied include six types: the controlling style, the equalitarian style, the structuring style, the dynamic style, the relilinguishing style, the withdrawal style. This study uses a quantitative approach with a population of 215 roller skate athletes in Bekasi City and a sample of 70 athletes selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using a Likert scale-based questionnaire to measure the variables of coach communication style (X) and athlete attitudes (Y), which consist of cognitive, affective, and conative aspects. Data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression using SPSS software. The result of this study indicate that the coach’s communication style has a significant influence on the attitude of roller skating athletes ini Bekasi Citty. 35.1% also indicates that the communication style makes a considerable contribution to shaping the athletes attitudes. These findings are expected to provide practical contributions for coaches to adopt a more adaptive and constructive and needs of today’s athelete, so that the sports training process can run more effectively and athletes performance can be improved Keywords: coach, communication style, attitude athlete, sport, roller skate
