Abstract

This study aims to analyze the lifestyle of Scarneck, a black metal band from Cikarang, in their musical activities and efforts to sustain their lives. Scarneck combines the Do It Yourself (DIY) principle to create works and face various challenges. This study uses a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and observations, with Chris Barker's theory of Youth, Style, and Resistance as the analytical framework. The findings show that Scarneck's lifestyle reflects the theory of Youth as Moratorium, where the band serves as a medium for exploring identity through art and music. Youth as a Cultural Classification is reflected in the adoption of subcultural values that shape their identity. Additionally, through the concept of Trouble and Fun, Scarneck gradually adopts the straight edge lifestyle, which reflects their efforts to combat negative stereotypes within the metal community.
