Abstract

The naming of food and beverage menus in cafes is one of the important aspects of culinary linguistics that reflects identity and marketing strategies. This study aims to analyze the naming patterns of food and beverage menus at Cafe Main Street Dining & Coffee from the point of view of onomastics and culinary linguistics. The data analyzed amounted to 142 menu names, which were grouped based on language use and naming patterns. The results show that most of the menu names use English with a variety of naming patterns, ranging from generic/descriptive names to proper names that have specific cultural and historical origins. Richard Coates' Pragmatic Theory of Properhood (TPTP) is used to examine the onomastic status of these menu names, particularly in distinguishing between semi-proper names. This analysis confirms that menu naming not only conveys ingredient and flavor information, but also becomes the identity and identity of a food or drink.
