Abstract

This research examines the complexity of the phenomenon of self-disclosure in anonymous communication spaces, particularly on Telegram bots. The background of this research is based on the increasing relevance of self-disclosure on social media, where users utilize anonymity to share personal experiences in search of emotional support, advice, or to release negative emotions. The main objective of this study is to understand how self-disclosure in anonymous communication on Telegram bots in social interactions can change users' attitudes. This research employs the theory of self-disclosure. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The focus of this approach is to collect data in the form of words, stories or narratives rich in meaning that provide a deep understanding of a specific event, situation, or context. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, with the unit of analysis being chat users on Telegram bots. Anonymeet. The key informant in this research is Mrs. Siti Nurhidayah, S.Psi., M.Si., a psychology lecturer. The results of this study indicate that anonymity is the main driver in every dimension of self-disclosure, facilitating long conversation durations, allowing negative valence disclosures without fear of judgment, encouraging honesty (albeit with the note of 'a double-edged sword'), enabling careful information control, as well as facilitating deep self-disclosure. For future research, it is suggested to contribute to the study area of self-disclosure, in the field of communication studies, to develop theories and serve as a foundation for further research.
