Abstract
This study aims to design and develop a Smart White Cane based on Arduino as a navigation aid for visually impaired individuals. The smart cane is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor (US-015) to detect obstacles in front of the user, and an MP3 module (YX5300) to deliver voice alerts through a headset. The system is designed to categorize distances into three warning levels: "Close Danger" (0 30 cm), "Front Obstacle" (31–60 cm), and "Be Careful" (61–100 cm), each with a distinct audio message. Testing was conducted on three different sensor placement points (A, B, and C) to determine the most effective position. Results show that point B is the optimal placement, as it successfully detects all types of obstacles within the 10–100 cm range. The US-015 sensor proved to be accurate in transmitting distance data to the system, which is then translated into voice warnings via the YX5300 module. The voice alert system achieved a 100% success rate, with messages corresponding accurately to obstacle distances. No voice alert is triggered beyond 100 cm, as it is considered a safe zone. This design helps enhance the safety and independence of visually impaired users during navigation and reduces the risk of accidents in their surroundings
