Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the air-fuel ratio (lambda) on the performance of a 150cc gasoline engine by varying the ECU settings and spark plug types. Lambda value is the ratio between the actual Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) and the stoichiometric AFR, which plays an important role in determining combustion efficiency, power, torque, fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions. In this study, testing was carried out using the dyno test method to obtain power (horsepower) and torque data at various lambda values. The fuel mixture adjustment was carried out through ECU modification, while the ignition spark was optimized by using different spark plug types. The test results show that a lambda value slightly lower than 1 (rich mixture) produces higher peak power and torque compared to a lambda value close to 1 (stoichiometric) or greater than 1 (lean mixture). In the optimal setting, a maximum torque of 80.86 Nm was achieved at 7769 RPM, and a maximum power of 15.6 HP was achieved at 9819 RPM. These findings indicate that precise lambda tuning, supported by appropriate ECU settings and spark plug selection, can significantly enhance engine performance. This research can serve as a reference for practitioners and academics in optimizing the combustion system for improved efficiency and engine performance.
