Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the toughness value of Stainless Steel 304 material. The selection of the GTAW method itself is due to its use which is often applied in construction work projects. The selection of GTAW tungsten electrodes also varies, the selection is adjusted to the type of material used in this study, the tungsten used is thoriated. The material tested in this study is SUS 304 pipe because the SUS 304 pipe material is in the category of thin welding, so this type of connection reduces the melting filler metal to cover the inner diameter of the pipe so that the use of this pipe is suitable for use with the GTAW method to test the toughness of the material. the. Stainless Steel 304 in this study is divided into 3 currents, namely 75 A, 85A and 95A. This current distribution is needed to find the toughness value for each welded joint so as to help find the best Ampere value that can be adjusted by the GTAW method. This study uses the GTAW method of welding with a flat welding position of 1G and the type of shielding gas 98.99% Arcal with the addition of several tools used to support the implementation of the research. Based on the parameters that have been designed and determined on the WPS, it has met the requirements for GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) welding on SUS 304 pipe material, as evidenced by impact testing.
