Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran komunikasi interpersonal guru Bimbingan dan Konseling (BK) dalam mengatasi permasalahan siswa di SMP Negeri 8 Cibitung. Permasalahan siswa yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari dua kategori, yaitu permasalahan non-akademik seperti membolos, merokok, datang terlambat, melanggar aturan berpakaian, memakai make up, serta konflik antar siswa, dan permasalahan akademik seperti kesulitan belajar serta kebingungan menentukan jenjang pendidikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teori yang digunakan adalah Teori Penetrasi Sosial dari Altman dan Taylor. Komunikasi interpersonal guru BK kepada siswa berlangsung secara bertahap, dimulai dari tahap orientasi, eksplorasi, afektif, hingga tahap stabil. Setiap tahapan menunjukkan perubahan kedekatan dan keterbukaan antara guru BK dan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa melalui komunikasi yang dilakukan dengan empati, bahasa yang tidak menghakimi, dan pendekatan yang menyesuaikan karakter siswa, hubungan yang hangat dan saling percaya mulai terbentuk. Maka dari itu, siswa mulai mampu menyampaikan permasalahan yang dialaminya dan perlahan menunjukkan perubahan sikap. Komunikasi interpersonal guru BK memberikan ruang interaksi yang membuat siswa merasa lebih dihargai dan didampingi dalam menghadapi permasalahannya di sekolah. This study aims to explore the role of interpersonal communication by Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers in addressing student problems at SMP Negeri 8 Cibitung. The student issues discussed in this research fall into two categories: non-academic problems such as truancy, smoking, arriving late, violating dress codes, wearing makeup, and peer conflicts; and academic problems such as learning difficulties and confusion in choosing the next level of education. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with the Social Penetration Theory by Altman and Taylor as its theoretical framework. The interpersonal communication between BK teachers and students progresses in stages, beginning from the orientation stage, followed by exploration, affective, and finally the stable stage. Each stage reflects a growing sense of closeness and openness between the teacher and the student. The findings reveal that communication conducted with empathy, non-judgmental language, and an approach tailored to the student's character gradually builds a warm and trusting relationship. As a result, students begin to express the problems they are experiencing and gradually show changes in behavior. The interpersonal communication of BK teachers creates a space for interaction that makes students feel more valued and supported in dealing with their problems at school.
