Abstract

A generator is a power generation device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. Excitation control is essential to achieve the ideal generator output voltage. This study aims to analyze the effect of external excitation amplification on a 1 KW generator with respect to the output voltage and the vibration produced in the generator system. An experimental method was used in the testing, in which the generator was coupled with a three-phase motor operating at a constant rotational speed (RPM). Variations in excitation voltage were applied to observe their effect on the generator's output and their impact on system vibration, particularly when the generator was loaded with inductive loads in the form of induction motors with capacities of 15 watts, 25 watts, and 35 watts. A GM63A vibration meter was used to detect changes in generator vibration. The results of the study indicate that excitation control influences both the generator output and its vibration under both no-load and loaded conditions. The average vibration generated when the generator was unloaded was 12.7 mm/s; under low load, it was 13.02 mm/s; under medium load, it was 13.37 mm/s; and under high load, it was 13.58 mm/s. The correlation between excitation and generator output under various load conditions showed high values ranging from 0.92 to 0.98, indicating a very strong and significant relationship. Additionally, the correlation between excitation and generator vibration under various load conditions was between 0.97 and 0.99, also indicating a very strong and significant relationship.
