Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of banana stem composites in the form of particles and fibers on tensile strength and the physical properties of the material. The study refers to previous research conducted by Dicky Ramdani titled " Analisis Pengaruh Fraksi Volume Serat Pelepah Pisang Bermatriks Unsaturated Polymer Resin (Upr) Terhadap Sifat Mekanik Material ", and by Syahrul Apandi titled " Analisis Komposisi Komposit Pelepah Pisang Dengan Polypropylane Pada Proses Sintering Terhadap Sifat Mekanik Material ". In this research, a comparative method was used between two types of composites: continuous fiber composites and polypropylene composites. Tests were carried out to evaluate density, water absorption, thickness swelling, and tensile strength of each material. The results showed that composites with a continuous fiber arrangement have higher density and tensile strength compared to polypropylene-based composites. In addition, the polypropylene composites with unidirectional banana stem fibers tended to have higher moisture content and greater water absorption. On the other hand, continuous fiber composites demonstrated better resistance to water absorption and thickness swelling. Thus, the use of banana stem fibers in a continuous fiber form provides more optimal mechanical and physical performance compared to the particle form in polypropylene composites.
