Abstract
Social Studies learning in junior high schools is still often dominated by monotonous lectures, which lowers students' motivation. A preliminary study at SMPN 22 Bekasi showed student interest in digital media like Kahoot. This study aimed to examine the effect of Kahoot on learning motivation and compare it with conventional methods. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest posttest control group design. The sample involved 60 eighth-grade students selected purposively. The instrument was a learning motivation scale based on Hamzah B. Uno’s indicators (30 items). Validity was tested using Aiken’s V (0.81 0.94) and reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha (0.941). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed significant increases in motivation in both the experimental group (Z = -4.795; p < 0.05) and the control group (Z = -4.865; p < 0.05), with a significant difference between groups (Z = 4.911; p < 0.05). Kahoot is proven effective in improving students’ motivation in Social Studies.
