Abstract

Academic help seeking is an important learning strategy, but it has not been optimally utilized by students. This study aims to examine the role of academic self-concept and academic self-efficacy as factors that influence this behavior. The research was conducted quantitatively on 384 students of Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi using three instruments namely Academic Self-Concept Scale, Academic Self-efficacy Scale, and Academic Help seeking Scale, each of which has high reliability of (0.981; 0.988; and 0.954). The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between academic self-concept and academic help seeking (r = 0.395; p = 0.000), as well as between academic self-efficacy and academic help seeking (r = 0.397; p = 0.000). Thus, the hypothesis H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that both variables contribute to academic help-seeking behavior in college students.
