Abstract
Indonesia is located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it highly susceptible to seismic activity. Frequent earthquakes pose significant risks to buildings, especially those with structural systems that are not adequately designed to resist seismic forces. An innovative approach to improving earthquake resistance is the use of symmetrical hexagonal-shaped structures, inspired by the honeycomb pattern, which is known for its efficiency in load distribution and structural stability. This study aims to analyze the performance of a symmetrically hexagonal building structure in dissipating seismic forces, compare its effectiveness with conventional structural forms, and identify the factors affecting its stability and efficiency. The analysis was conducted using SAP2000 software by employing the finite element method to simulate the structural response under seismic loads. The findings reveal that the hexagonal structure is capable of withstanding earthquake forces, as indicated by the orange-colored performance indicator in SAP2000 for structural design. Furthermore, the structure meets design requirements in accordance with Indonesian National Standards (SNI), supported by the "verify all member passed" analysis feature in SAP2000. The reinforcement details derived from the analysis are as follows: the main reinforcement for beam supports (top and bottom) is 4D16; for mid-span beams (top and bottom) is 3D16; beam shear reinforcement at supports is Ø14 with 120 mm spacing; column main reinforcement is 8D16; column shear reinforcement is Ø14 with 120 mm spacing; and slab reinforcement in both x and y directions is Ø12 with 100 mm spacing. These results confirm the structural viability of the hexagonal model in seismic zones..
