Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are to educate students and provide a safe environment for them, the media has reported cases of immoral harassment in these Islamic boarding schools, which have caused parents to worry about the safety of their children. The purpose of this study was to determine how parental anxiety about the safety of their children in Islamic boarding schools is influenced by media exposure. The theory of uses and gratification is the theory applied in this study. This study uses a quantitative, descriptive explanatory methodology. The sampling technique used is the Probability Sampling methodology with the Random Sampling method and the number of samples determined using the Slovin formula is 75 respondents from 300 parents of students. The analysis technique used is simple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that Media Exposure (X) has a positive and significant influence on anxiety level (Y). This is evidenced by the t-count value of 5.986> t-table 1.984 and a significance of 0.000 <0.05 as required so that the results of the hypothesis (Ha) are accepted and (Ho) are rejected. Based on the results of the determination coefficient, it shows that media exposure has an influence of 32.9% on the level of anxiety of parents of students at Islamic Boarding Schools.
