Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension ability of students, which is indicated by students being unable to answer questions correctly and having difficulty writing down important information in the reading text. In addition, there is a lack of ability to determine the main idea, determine the moral message in the text, draw conclusions from the contents of the reading, and retell the story. The purpose of this study is to improve students' reading comprehension skills in learning Indonesian using the PQ4R method in grade V students of SDN Marga Mulya II Bekasi. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with two cycles. Each cycle is carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects in this study were 18 students, consisting of nine males and nine females. The data collection technique in this study used written tests and observations. This study is said to be successful if 90% of the number of students achieve a minimum score of 80. The results showed that the classical completeness of grade V increased from cycle I to cycle II. The percentage of classical completeness in cycle I was 50% with an average value of 72. In cycle II, classical completeness increased to 94% with an average value of 89. Thus, it can be concluded that the Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (PQ4R) method can improve the reading comprehension ability of Indonesian language learning in grade V students of SDN Marga Mulya II Bekasi.
