Abstract
This study discusses the management of remittances of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in improving the economic level of families in Tegalwaru District, Karawang Regency. The problem of minimal job opportunities in the country encourages people to become PMI in order to get a higher income. This study uses a mixed method with a descriptive and survey approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 48 respondents in 9 villages in Tegalwaru District. The results of the study show that the majority of PMI come from families with lower-middle economic backgrounds, with high school/vocational high school education as the most dominant. PMI are dominated by women (52.08%) with the largest age range between 26-30 years (27.08%). Remittances sent by PMI are generally used for basic family needs, education, and economic investment. The results of the study show that remittance funds have an important role in improving the welfare of PMI families. Some families use these funds for investment and small businesses, which ultimately contribute to local economic growth. Policies are needed to encourage more productive use of remittances so that their impact is more sustainable for the economy of families and communities in the PMI's areas of origin.
