Abstract

This research focuses on the design and optimization of a rectangular microstrip array antenna for Wi-Fi applications, operating at a frequency of 2.45 GHz. The main objective of this research is to develop an efficient antena by meeting performance parameters such as return loss, gain, and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR). Using a combination of theoretical calculations and simulation software (CST Studio Suite 2024), the antena dimensions are optimized to achieve maximum efficiency. The simulation results show promising results with a return loss of -33.11 dB, VSWR of 1.05, and gain of 5.15 dB, indicating an efficient antena design for the target frequency. The antena was then fabricated using FR4 epoxy material with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. After fabrication, the antena was tested using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) to measure its performance under real- world conditions. The VNA measurement results showed a slight discrepancy in return loss and VSWR compared to the simulation, highlighting areas that need further improvement. The measured return loss was -10.015 dB, which although still within acceptable limits, was higher than the simulation result of -33.11 dB. The measured VSWR value was 1.92, slightly higher than the simulation result of 1.05. This indicates an impedance mismatch that needs to be corrected. This study concludes that although the antena design is effective, the test results show that there is still potential to improve the efficiency of the antena performance. Further adjustments to the impedance matching and antena dimensions are highly recommended to achieve more optimal performance, especially in real conditions that can be affected by environmental factors and material variations.
