Abstract

Steel is one of the most widely used materials in the industrial, construction, and automotive fields. However, this steel has a weakness, which is susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion is a destructive process that occurs in steel. Corrosion in steel cannot be avoided but the corrosion rate process can be slowed down by controlling the corrosion rate (Femiana Gapsari, 2017: 4). One way to slow down the corrosion rate is by giving inhibitors. Biduri leaves contain active compounds such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols that have potential as corrosion inhibitors. Biduri leaf extract can be used as an organic inhibitor that can reduce the corrosion rate of A36 steel with seawater media. Research has been carried out with a variation of immersion time of 144 hours, 288 hours, and 436 hours by giving a variation of inhibitor 5 ml, 10 ml, and 15 ml, also without inhibitor. From the results of the study using seawater corrosion media, it can be proven that the highest corrosion rate was found in the sample that was not given an inhibitor, namely 66, 873 Mpy at 144 hours of immersion. In contrast, the lowest corrosion rate was found in the sample with 5 ml of inhibitor, namely 1,152 Mpy at 288 hours of immersion. Keywords: Corrosion, Corrosion inhibitor, Biduri leaf extract.
